Hello Everyone!

It’s been a busy month and I am sorry you have not heard from me in a few. Today is going to be a big update so grab a shrimp po-boy, Zapps chips and a Barqs root beer in a glass bottleAnd let’s dive in NOLA style.

What have you been doing lately?

I’ve been busier now that I can drive. I pick the kids up from school and run small errands where there are not a lot of people. It helps take stress off of Ashley and I am glad to help out.

In addition, I also post a bit on Tik Tok. It helps distract me from all the challenging things going on right now which you will read about below. If you would like to follow me on Tik Tok my screen name is @sthooch. Mostly videos about my past Disney experiences while working there.

Even though I am up and about, it does come at a price and it takes its toll.

I will admit that I tend to be too optimistic and over do it. What I do not report on is after I run those errands or make those Tik Toks, I am exhausted. I usually have to lay down and rest. I am also still battling the gastroparesis so that is not helping.

What else could possibly happen?

I have recently been diagnosed with BKV or BK Virus.

What is BK virus?

BK virus (BKV) is a common infection encountered after kidney transplantation. BKV is associated with a spectrum of manifestations, starting with sub-clinical viruria, followed by viremia and BKV-associated nephropathy.”

”The BK virus is a member of the polyomavirus family. Past infection with the BK virus is widespread, but significant consequences of infection are uncommon, with the exception of the immunocompromised and the immunosuppressed.”

What are the Symptoms and Signs of BK Virus Infection?

  • Brown or red urine due to small amount of blood in the urine.

  • Difficulties with urination.

  • Fever, muscle pain or weakness.

  • Difficulty with breathing, cold and cough.

  • Worsening kidney function, due to kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis)

My case is extremely mild and I am not experiencing any symptoms.

How do you beat BK virus on a kidney transplant?

In conclusion, routine screening for BK virus reactivation and active use of graft biopsy are the most reliable ways to overcome BK virus infection in pediatric kidney transplant recipients.”

For me they are lowering my immunosuppressive meds temporarily.

I will keep you updated.

In the meantime I am scheduled to have cataract surgery. No anxiety. Let’s just get it over with.

More Dudeoir?

I am planning a celebratory photoshoot. I was also contacted by a photographer in Cincinnati and may explore that opportunity.

Stay tuned…

I plan to post more often and will highlight body positivity and naturism as confidence builders and stress relievers.
