February 2023 - Double Whammy - Strep & COVID

It has been a struggle. I never imagined that there would be so many moving parts in the rehabilitation process. Things did not go as planned during February.

Towards the beginning of the month I had a prostate exam. What I always dreaded has now become a common occurrence. You know it no longer bothers you when you can continue a conversation with your doctor as she/he lubes you up.

The exam immediately found that I have an infected prostate. What causes it? It just happens. The doctor gave me a prescription for the infection and I was on my way. I was on it for two weeks and had my labs for my transplant. My numbers were bad.

It looked as though it was beginning to look like my body was starting to reject my new kidney. Ends up the type of antibiotics I was on for my prostate was doing potential damage and I was instructed to stop taking them immediately. Later labs showed the numbers were getting better.

A week or so after that I begin feeling sick and take a covid, flu and strep test. I was positive for covid and strep. >sigh<

As I type this post from my bed, I am on amoxicillin for the strep and nothing for covid. All covid meds will interfere with my anti-rejection meds. All I can do is drink a lot of water and hope for the best.

I will say I am feeling better but have severe fatigue, headaches, coughing and dizziness. Hopefully it will be over soon.

To add to it, Ashley also has covid and the kids must quarantine at home...no school. It is next to impossible to parent three kids while both parents are down for the count.

I'm hoping this passes soon so I can get back to focusing on other things related to my kidney rehabilitation.
